Day 1 Jkia – Nairobi – Hotel
Arrives JKI Airport where you will be met by Our Customer Representative together with your professional driver guide with a transfer to your city hotel – Check in The Norfolk Hotel
The exterior of The Fairmont Norfolk Hotel has changed little since the colonial era. Timbered walls covered in vines and creepers, the taxi rank with old London cabs queuing to take guests where they will, look much the same as they did in the old photographs that chart the history of Kenya. Opened on Christmas Day 1904 (and still justifiably famous for its Christmas Morning cocktail party) The Fairmont Norfolk has hosted such luminaries as Lord Delamere, Theodore Roosevelt and Karen Blixen. Now expensively refurbished the hotel still retains a sense of history. The new reception areas of the Norfolk Hotel are light, bright and immediately welcoming. Ceiling fans, cane chairs, plump animal-print cushions and deep sofas combine with locally sourced woods to create a tranquil ambience with echoes of the colonial period in which The Fairmont Norfolk featured so strongly. Overnight – The Norfolk Hotel, the city’s finest – BB
Day 2 Nairobi – Amboseli
Transfer to Wilson after breakfast for your scheduled flight to Amboseli National, met by camp vehicle and with game drive en-route to your camp for check in and lunch – Tortilis Luxury Camp.
Proceed on your afternoon game drive. Within Amboseli the elephant are very habituated to people (it is the site of the longest running elephant study in the world) and visitors may observe them for long periods in order to see the interaction of the herd. The Amboseli herds are famous for the size of both elephants and their tusks. There are also lion, a high concentration of hyena, Cape buffalo, waterbuck and serval, among many others. The camp, however, is electric-fenced and so you may walk alone at night without feeling anxious! Excellent birding is on offer. There are around four hundred species, including flamingo, a variety of waders and one weaver bird particular to Amboseli. Despite the huge range of birdlife, perhaps the favourite bird at Tortilis is the barn own that lives in the rafters of the high, pitched roof of the bar, and swoops out on his nightly forays just as the guests are sipping their sundowners. At Tortilis you really are close to nature. Dinner and Overnight – TortilisAmboseli Camp – LDBB
Day 3 Amboseli
Breakfast at your Camp. Full day in Amboseli with morning and afternoon game drive provided you may as well choose to go on a full day game drive departing after breakfast. All meals at your Camp. Dinner and Overnight – TortilisAmboseli Camp – LDBB
Day 4 Amboseli – Nairobi – Lewa (Laikipia)
After breakfast transfer to the airstrip for your morning flight to Nairobi to connect to your Nairobi – Lewa flight into Kenya’s northern frontier followed by a Landrover transfer into an immense private conservation ranch. The ‘Laikipia’ region of northern Kenya has become a model for wildlife conservation and sustainable development the world over.
Individual reserves, some as large as 100,000 acres, have been protected from rampant agriculture and cattle farming, to protect the natural wildlife and outstandingly spectacular bushlands. You’ll arrive the luxurious camp in time for lunch, and immediately in the afternoon you begin your many varied activities. Overnight at Lewa Safari Camp – LDBB
Day 5 Laikipia
The area is famous for its Elephant, but this is a fragile and marvellous ecosystem with some of the rarest wildlife on earth. Nowhere else will you find the world’s most handsome Giraffe, the reticulated, or the rare Grevy’s Zebra. The area abounds with the strange, long-necked Impala known as the Gerenuk, as well as the blue-legged Somali ostrich.
These creatures will be found nowhere else, but you’ll also see many of the regulars, including Buffalo, common Zebra, Gazelle, and the great predators on your Kenya vacation package. You’ll be shown around by the reserve’s owners, all of who take a personal interest in this marvellous area. There will be opportunities for game viewing and unusual activities, like walking, and possibilities for river safaris and spelunking. Consider this like visiting an American dude ranch, with the distinct difference that you’ll be hearing the roaring of Lions at night! Overnight at Lewa Safari Camp – LDBB
Day 6 Laikipia – Samburu
The time it takes to negotiate the back roads of these very remote wildernesses are hard to gauge, so today’s schedule will be leisurely. Most of the morning of your Kenya safari vacation package will be spent on the ranch, and mid morning you embark on about 2 hours road transfer to Samburu Game Reserve and to Saruni Luxury Camp for check in and lunch
On your game drives you likely to see a whole range of East African wildlife. Animals of special interest in Samburu, and rarely found elsewhere, are Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the Beisaoryx. The birdlife is especially notable. During the heat of the day you may well be happy to lounge around the attractive pool but after sunset you will feel renewed and a sundowner or two while watching the traditional dances of the Samburu warriors is a wonderful way to end the daylight hours.
Night brings its own special atmosphere with a new cast of characters and strange new noises. Frogs and insects provide a background chorus to your delicious dinner. The secretive solitary leopard may silently arrive, attracted to the fresh meat bait in the tree across the river. The air is heavy with soft sounds and scents as you retire to bed after your stimulating day in Samburu. Overnight at Saruni Luxury Camp – LDBB
Day 7 Samburu Game Reserve
Full days in Samburu with morning and afternoon game drives to include visits to adjacent Shaba Reserve and Buffalo Spring. All meals at your Camp. Dinner and overnight Saruni Luxury Camp – LDBB
Day 8 Samburu – Maasai Mara
Morning flight into Kenya’s finest big game reserve, the Masai Mara. Met and with about 1 ½ hours transfer to your camp Cottar’s 1920 for check in and lunch
Afternoon game drive to return to your camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Cottar’s 1920 Camp – LDBB
Days 9 & 10 - Masai Mara
Two extended game drives are included daily from camp in open Landrovers driven by the country’s most experienced guides. The Mara is everyone’s dream of Africa comes true: gently rolling grassland plains bisected by a number of great rivers. The area is filled with lion and cheetah, and leopards are often found.
The plains are filled with wildebeest, hartebeest, topi, eland and much more, and the birdlife is incredible. Optional visit to Maasai village or book a Hot Air Balloon. Each evening you return to the unbelievable splendor of your luxury camp.Overnight at Cottar’s 1920 Camp – LDBB
